GM Recalls Over 31,000 Vehicles Due to Continental Tire Defect

General Motors has issued a recall affecting approximately 31,000 vehicles, including the 2025–2026 Chevrolet Equinox EV and Cadillac Optiq models, due to a defect in the Continental CrossContact RX 275/40R21 tyres. The issue stems from an improper tread base rubber compound used in tyres manufactured during DOT week 4024 (October 6–12, 2024), which may lead to partial or complete tread detachment.

GM has advised owners to check their tires for the DOT code 4024 on the sidewall. If present, dealers are instructed to replace the affected tires free of charge. The recall includes:

  • 2025 Cadillac Optiq: 3,468 units
  • 2026 Cadillac Optiq: 214 units
  • 2025 Chevrolet Equinox EV: 17,400 units
  • 2026 Chevrolet Equinox EV: 1,832 units

GM is not aware of any incidents related to this defect, but is recalling the products for safety reasons. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed by December 1, 2025.
