Madhya Pradesh Sets Out Mobility Vision 2030 with 15,000 Modern Buses
Madhya Pradesh is preparing a major expansion and modernisation of its public transport network under its Mobility Vision 2030, with the state targeting a more connected, safer and passenger-friendly transport system.
Under the vision, Madhya Pradesh Passenger Transport and Infrastructure Limited plans to operate more than 15,000 modern public buses across the state. The programme also aims to improve connectivity to rural areas, with a target of connecting 75% of gram panchayats through bus services.
The proposed transformation is not limited to increasing the number of buses. The state is looking at technology-led planning, improved passenger services and greater private-sector participation. Public transport is also expected to become more organised through stronger institutional mechanisms and the use of modern fleet-management practices.
The mobility push comes as Madhya Pradesh looks to build a more sustainable and efficient transport ecosystem. The state has also been promoting public-private partnerships to expand and modernise passenger transport, with the recent Yatri Parivahan Vision Summit focusing on investment, technology, safety, connectivity and greener mobility.
For a state with a large geographical area and a significant rural population, expanding reliable bus connectivity could play an important role in improving access to employment, education, healthcare and markets.
The Mobility Vision 2030 therefore represents a shift from simply adding transport capacity towards creating a more integrated and modern passenger mobility network.

A 15,000-bus fleet would represent a substantial opportunity for India’s tyre industry. The scale of the proposed expansion means that tyre selection, durability and fleet maintenance will become increasingly important components of operating costs.
For bus operators, tyres have a direct bearing on fuel efficiency, safety, uptime and maintenance expenses. With vehicles operating across both urban and rural routes, the requirements are also likely to vary considerably, from stop-start city operations to longer-distance routes and roads with differing surface conditions.
The opportunity goes beyond supplying tyres. Large, professionally managed fleets can increasingly benefit from tyre-pressure monitoring, casing management, retreading and data-driven maintenance systems. As Madhya Pradesh builds its public transport network, adopting these practices from the outset could help control lifecycle costs while improving fleet reliability.
If implemented effectively, Mobility Vision 2030 could therefore create not only a larger public transport network, but also a significant new market for more sophisticated commercial tyre and fleet-management solutions.
