HARMAN to Invest ₹345 Crore to Expand Pune Facility for Connected Car Electronics

HARMAN, a subsidiary of Samsung Electronics, has announced an investment of ₹345 crore to expand its automotive electronics manufacturing facility in Chakan, Pune. Of this amount, ₹45 crore is earmarked for immediate expansion, while the remaining ₹300 crore will be invested over the next three years to support advanced telematics and connectivity programmes.

The expansion will add over 71,000 sq ft of built-up area, including a 45,000 sq ft production shop floor. Four new surface-mount technology (SMT) lines will be installed, boosting the plant’s capacity by more than 50 per cent. By 2027, the facility expects to produce four million car audio components, 1.4 million infotainment units, and 0.8 million telematics control units annually. Around 300 new jobs will be created in Pune as part of this growth.

HARMAN’s Pune plant serves as a global hub for connected car technologies, catering to major Indian OEMs and export markets in Europe and North America. The move aligns with the government’s “Make in India, for the World” vision and positions India as a key manufacturing base for advanced mobility systems.

Tyre Times’ View:
This development reinforces India’s growing role in the global automotive supply chain. As connected and intelligent mobility gains momentum, the tyre industry may see ripple effects, from new vehicle segments to the changing weight distribution and load requirements in smart and connected vehicles. Localisation in electronics could soon mirror what the tyre sector achieved years ago: Indian-made products designed for the world.
