WeMo Sets Sights on 50,000 E-Scooters by 2030 in Taiwan
Taiwan’s shared electric scooter operator WeMo Scooter is ramping up its smart mobility network and is targeting a fleet of 50,000 e-scooters by 2030. Over the next few years, the company plans to expand its operations across Taiwan’s major cities, bolster its battery swap and charging infrastructure, and deepen partnerships with vehicle manufacturers, service providers, and urban mobility platforms.
Founded in 2016, WeMo has already built a strong presence through its rental and sharing model in cities such as Taipei and Kaohsiung. The new target reflects a shift toward scaling from sharing to ownership-plus-support, offering options for long-term rentals, personal use, and fleet deployment. This strategic move comes amid sluggish growth in Taiwan’s domestic e-scooter market and reflects WeMo’s ambition to lead regional mobility transformation.
As part of its 2030 goal, WeMo will upgrade its digital platform for smarter ride-hailing, predictive maintenance, and vehicle management. The company also aims to leverage data analytics and 5G connectivity to enhance rider experience, optimise recharging operations, and improve fleet uptime. With several major Taiwan manufacturers and telecom players joining alliances, WeMo’s vision ties shared mobility, electrification, and smart-city infrastructure into one roadmap.
Tyre Times’ View:
While this news focuses primarily on the e-scooter sharing economy in Taiwan, it signals a larger shift in mobility that tyre industry stakeholders should observe. As platforms move into larger-scale fleets and long-term use models, tyre wear, durability, and replacement cycles become more predictable and contract-driven. For emphasised tyre suppliers, this could create new “fleet-fitment” opportunities in shared mobility ecosystems. More broadly, it reflects how future mobility ecosystems are evolving beyond ownership-based models toward usage-based services. Tyre manufacturers will need to stay agile and adapt to diverse business models and maintenance landscapes.
