Maruti Suzuki Plans Four New SUVs Including Hybrids With Up to 35 kmpl Mileage
Maruti Suzuki is gearing up to launch four new SUVs in India over the coming years, including a strong-hybrid and an electric model, targeting mileage figures of up to 35 kmpl. The new avatars will span several segments, from entry-level compact SUVs to premium seven-seaters, reflecting the automaker’s intent to broaden its utility vehicle (UV) portfolio.
Reports suggest one key model will be a hybrid variant of the existing Maruti Fronx that uses a 1.2-litre petrol engine coupled with an electric motor and is expected to deliver over 35 kmpl. A second model is expected to be a full-battery electric SUV (codenamed “e-Vitara”) while the third and fourth models include a larger seven-seater UV and an all-new compact SUV targeted at younger buyers. The plan is to time these launches across 2026 and beyond, building momentum in the SUV and EV transition era.
If Maruti can execute this plan, it will position itself strongly in India’s highly competitive SUV market and tap into both mileage-conscious and premium buyers.
Tyre Times’ View:
Maruti Suzuki’s SUV expansion underlines how the Indian auto market continues evolving on two fronts: size and sustainability. For players in the tyre industry, this is a cue to prepare for broader fitment demands, especially from compact to premium UVs. As new models arrive, tyre makers should monitor the mix of tyre sizes and specifications used across these platforms and anticipate increasing demand in replacement markets as well.
